Once Nymphenburg was the summer residence of the Bavarian kings and electors and was incorporated into Munich in 1899, along with the Hirschgarten, which was created at the instigation of Elector Karl Theodor.
Numerous noble and magnificent examples of architecture as well as elegant streets with old residential buildings and an Art Nouveau villa colony are located around the palace as well as to the north and south of the Nymphenburg Canal. Therefore, it is not surprising that the area along the canal is also one of Munich's prime locations.
Nymphenburg is known for its palace, the palace park (one of the most significant park landscapes in Germany), the botanical garden (with the palm house), the green and recreational areas, and the Hirschgarten (Munich's largest and most beautiful beer garden).
