A brief look into the history of Untermenzing

Many archaeological finds prove that the area of Untermenzing was already inhabited in prehistoric times.
First documented in 817 under the name Mezinga.
Untermenzing is a former farming village, whose buildings are mainly along the Dorfstraße ran, today called Eversbuschstraße.
The Würm River played an important role in the lives of the inhabitants, serving as a watering hole for livestock and for irrigating the gardens.
Rapid population growth occurred after the establishment of industry.
Influx of workers and employees, individual farms were converted into workers' quarters.
After the First World War, Untermenzing grew together with Allach.

Significant structures and buildings in Untermenzing

The original development of the linear village can still be seen on Eversbuschstraße.
Catholic Church of St. Martin at Eversbuschstraße 9: Late Gothic aisleless church from the 15th century.
Formerly the Untermenzing School built in 1890 by Korbinian Beer, today the Untermenzing school center on Pfarrer-Grimm-Straße: it unites the elementary school, the Louise Schroeder Gymnasium, and the Carl Spitzweg Realschule. An after-school care center and a district library are also located in the school center.
Tavern Zur Schwaige at Eversbuschstraße 29 built as an inn with a butcher shop, today the building is used commercially.
At Eversbuschstraße 54 and 62 as well as Willstätterstraße 17 and 19, there are listed former farmhouses.
